All-new Nissan SUV spied

All-new Nissan SUV spied
New Nissan SUV will take on the Fortuner and Pajero Sport; likely to be called Pathfinder.

Nissan is readying its contender for the popular one-tonne, pickup-based SUV category which includes SUVs like the Ford Everest (Endeavour for India), the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Chevrolet Trailblazer / Isuzu MU-X.

Spy shots of Nissan’s all-new SUV have surfaced for the first time. Like its rivals, Nissan’s new SUV is also based on a pickup, in this case, the Nissan NP-300 Navara pickup truck which is already on sale globally. As seen from the spy pictures, this new SUV is likely to share most of its front styling from the pickup that includes the front fascia with a prominent signature Nissan grille and sweptback headlights with its pickup sibling.

The overall shape of this SUV is more on the squarish with a flat roof which does resemble earlier Nissan SUV’s notably the Nissan R51 Pathfinder SUV. This new SUV gets the second row door handles on the pillar – a notable feature started by Nissan long ago, now replicated by many other carmakers globally. The rear section of the SUV suggests a two-way opening tailgate, either with the entire hatch of through the glass.

Given the popularity of one-tonne pickup and SUVs in the ASEAN region, this new SUV will be built alongside the Navara at Nissan’s Thailand plant initially, and will be exported to many other countries. There is no news of an India launch as of now, but this new SUV could be aimed squarely to the likes of the Ford Endeavour, the upcoming new Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and also the new Jeep Compass which will be come to India next year.
