Jolla introduces Sailfish OS community device program with limited edition Jolla C smartphone

Jolla said that the Jolla C smartphone is currently being assembled, and will be shipped to the buyers in July this year. The program members will be getting the latest Sailfish OS releases, and they will also be able to opt-in to test future beta OS updates.
The community program users will get access to exclusive Sailfish OS developer sessions.

In Finland, the phone has been priced at 169 Euros, around Rs 12,650. It isn’t designed to be a commercial phone like the first Jolla smartphone yet. As part of the community program, the phone will only be shipped to EU countries, Norway and Switzerland. The Sailfish OS community device program will run until the end of May 2017, and interested users can register on the company’s website to learn about the future availability.

“The Program is meant for all who want to be in the frontline advocating or developing the Sailfish OS platform and a more open future. By joining the Program you get access to exclusive live community sessions, have a chance to get invitations to community events, and you also get the just announced Sailfish OS community smartphone Jolla C,” said the company in a blog post.

As for the specs, the Jolla C is an entry-level smartphone that sports a 5-inch HD display, and is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, further expandable up to 32GB. The phone offers an 8MP rear snapper with autofocus and an LED flash, and a 2MP front shooter. Its other specs include a 2,500mAh battery, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The phone’s features are similar to the Intex Aqua Fish (first impressions), which was unveiled at this year’s MWC with Sailfish OS 2.0 for around Rs 8,000.
